The Book: “ADHD and Me” (affiliate link)

Author: Chelsea Radojcic-DiCicco

What is it about?

This delightful, illustrated children’s book is about an eight-year-old girl named Malory. She has ADHD, and she has good days and bad days. Her mom explained that ADHD helps to make her special and that others have ADHD too. Malory describes the ups and downs of having ADHD and how it affects her at school and home. Malory also explains how ADHD makes her feel, and how she can have a bad day if she doesn’t take her medicine. In addition, she talks about how her art teacher is special too and that she has autism so she can relate to Malory.

Radojcic-DiCicco says she wrote the book based on her own experiences as a child with ADHD. She wanted to publish a book that would help children understand ADHD better. She also wanted to help those with ADHD know it’s okay to listen to their feelings. Her goal also was to help others understand what families go through when a child has ADHD.

What I liked about this book

I liked so many things about this book. In fact, I wish it had been available when my son J was first diagnosed at age 6 with ADHD. The author does such a good job of hitting all the major points of having ADHD from a child’s view and with so much empathy. I think children really struggle with all the emotions that ADHD brings, and this book encourages them and lets them know having these feelings is okay.

Would I recommend this book?

Yes, I would highly recommend “ADHD and Me” (affiliate link) for both children with ADHD and those who don’t have it. This would be a great book for teachers to read to their class to help them understand classmates and friends who struggle with ADHD. Of course, it’s a wonderful book for parents to share with their ADHD children to help them better understand their condition.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars*
